Chakras are powerful energy centers in the body, aligned with specific emotions and body parts. We often create physical and emotional blocks in these centers, closing ourselves off from feeling fully alive.
Through a combination of pranayama, asanas, mudras and meditation, you will achieve a higher level of awareness of your body’s energy system. We begin at Chakra One and move up the spine to Chakra Seven. Each Chakra will be open clear and spinning. Then we will pair a chocolate with each Chakra for a heightened taste sensation at the close of class. Join me for this workshop and experience a complete workout of the mind, body and soul.

Introduction to Meditation with Bhante Pemaratana

The quality of our lives is heavily determined by our ability to manage our emotions and to maintain the peace of mind. Though we live in a materially developed and technologically sophisticated world, we have not been able to reduce our unhappiness and stress due to the lack of the above ability. We earnestly need to learn ways to earn satisfaction and meaningful happiness in our lives. Bringing ancient wisdom to modern living can transform our lives to more meaningful ones.
The Romans famously said that man's ideal should be 'mens sana in corpore sano” ! (Healthy mind in a healthy body). In China Confucius spoke of harmony achieved by equilibrium of the mind. And the Buddha said that good health is the greatest gain, and contentment is the greatest wealth one could accumulate.
This workshop will allow you to be familiar with basic meditation techniques to calm our mind and to develop a sense of equanimity. It covers how to find your seat, ways to maintain awareness with body movements, techniques for breath meditation and ways to face common challenges in meditation such as physical pains, drowsiness and distracting thoughts.
Bhante Pemaratana is a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka. He has been practicing meditation for over 15 years and teaching meditation for 5 years. He also graduated with a Masters in Philosophy. He is researching the efficacy of meditation in psychotherapy. He recently won an award from Transcultural Society for Clinical Meditation, Japan for his research paper on Meditation and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. He is currently serving as the abbot of Pittsburgh Buddhist Center in Natrona Heights, PA.

Come join us as we explore the basics of Kunalini Yoga, the "Yoga of Awareness". We'll incorporate pranayam, kriya, meditation, and chanting to uplift the body, mind, spirit, and soul.
