Which class is right for me?

Are you new to yoga? We recommend starting with one of our Gentle or Beginnner classes. These classes will guide you through an introductory set of poses, and provide additional information about body positioning and the uses of the pose. After your class, you can decide if you are ready to move up to a higher level class. We are all just doing our best on any given day, practicing yoga is great for your body no matter what level you are.

Practicing yoga can help you:

  • Increase flexibility, increase energy
  • Improve sleep, reduce stress and help create a balanced life
  • Tone and strengthen muscles
  • Boost self-esteem, increase happiness
  • Increase metabolism, lose weight and aid digestion
  • Improve cardiovascular health

Studies have also shown yoga to help many medical illnesses like crohn's disease, arthritis, fibromyalgia and others. Ask your doctor if yoga can help you on your journey to wellness.

What do I bring/wear?

All students should bring a mat, towel, and water with them to class. We do have mat and water bottle rentals ($1 each) available in the store if you forget these items.

If you are taking a hot class, it is recommended that you bring your own mat, and also bring a yoga towel or large towel to cover your mat to reduce sliding, as well as a hand towel for general use during class.

Inexpensive yoga mats can become very slippery during a hot class, so we recommend and sell special microfiber yoga mat towels for use during hot classes that will absorb sweat and prevent sliding. Ask us about Yogitoes or Yoga Rats towels and how they can help you improve your practice.

Wear comfortable, non-restrictive exercise-style clothing that is easy to move in. Clothing that is too baggy or loose may also cause problems for you during class. Choose items that are close-fitting and stretch easily. For hot/warm classes, tank-style exercise tops and short or 3/4 length fitted pants will work best.

All students must sign a waiver/release form before starting a yoga practice at Moonglow yoga. It is the responsibility of each student to discuss with our teachers any/all existing or recent medical conditions or injuries. Any changes in condition should also be discussed with our yoga teachers.

Specific medical conditions that include, but are not limited to heart conditions, pregnancy, high blood pressure, back problems, shoulder/knee/joint conditions, specific eye problems and others may require that certain postures be modified or eliminated from your practice. All information is kept confidential.

Hot or not?

Our Greensburg studio offers hot, warm, and non-heated classes. Our warm classes (85°) and the hot classes (95°) help induce sweating, detoxify your body and purge the lactic acids that build up in the muscles while exercising. The Pittsburgh studio is currently only offering hot classes.

The hot classes are a challenging and faster-paced style vinyasa flow class linking movement and breath. Class begins seated with warm ups, then to standing series poses linked with sun salutations. The room is 95° temperature with added humidity.

Our class schedule page features descriptions of each type of class, and lists them in order from easy to challenging.

Student Guidelines and Etiquette:

Arrive Early
Please be on time for class. Be sure to arrive 5-10 minutes before class. Doors will be locked at the time listed for the start of class.

Stay until the end
Savasana is an important time of relaxation at the end of each yoga class. If you roll up your mat and run out the door during this time, you are not getting the full benefit of your class. Also, be aware of your fellow students and help limit disruptions and distractions during class.

Silence your cell, enjoy the quiet
Please turn off cell phones during classes. Please be mindful of your fellow students, as well as the healing and skin treatment sessions that may be taking place here at Moonglow.

Shoes off, please
Please remove shoes prior to entering the yoga room. Help us keep the studio clean and hygienic by removing your shoes and sandals (even when the weather is nice) and leaving them outside the classroom.

Skip scents and lotions
Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or heavily scented lotions to class. Many people have allergies to scents. Lotions and creams can make hands and feet slip on the mat.

Class hygiene
We recommend bringing your own yoga equipment to class. It is important to bring a towel and water with you, as well as your mat. We do have a limited amount of items to rent if you forget something.

Keep your belongings safe
We are not responsible for lost or broken items. Please place eyeglasses and personal items in the storage area, or leave them in your car.

What to wear
Wear comfortable, non-restrictive exercise-style clothing that is easy to move in. Wicking athletic wear is recommended, especially for the hot classes. Clothing that is too baggy or loose may also cause problems for you during class.

Food and drink
Yoga is best on an empty stomach. Please eat meals two hours prior to class. No food or beverages in the studio allowed with the exception of water bottles.

Talk to your teacher
It is the responsibility of each student to discuss with our teachers any/all existing or recent medical conditions or injuries. Any changes in condition should also be discussed with our yoga teachers. Specific medical conditions that include, but are not limited to heart conditions, pregnancy, high blood pressure, back problems, shoulder/knee/joint conditions, specific eye problems and others may require that certain postures be modified or eliminated from your practice. All information is kept confidential.
